The last section of 1Samuel 2:30 says “……for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed”.
On the other hand, Isaiah 5:20 say “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter”
Listening to some of our leaders and their supporters; it leaves you wondering if at all both parties know how to distinguish between good and evil, lies and truth, hatred and love, peace cries and war cries etc.
In the recent past, we have had some of our leaders calling for prayer rallies across the country; their supporters and even preachers gather in the rally venues in large numbers to pray as it may seem.
However, the conveners of these rallies pay less attention to prayers on the actual day(s) and instead, speaker after speaker who address the gathering usually engage in foul/abusive language towards their political opponents; bewilderingly arousing raptures applause from their ardent supporters.
In fact, the attendees of these rallies not only applaud their foul mouthed leaders, some of whom have been accused of heinous acts; who spread propaganda, insult and lies but go to a greater extent of singing, praising and dancing for the same as though heroes and heroines.
Although, I am yet to find out if there is a different meaning to the words “prayer rally” in Kenya; anyone knowledgeable enough would suppose that for leaders to call for such rallies across the country – they would be used solely for prayers whereby both the conveners and the attendees, genuinely humble themselves in prayers before God.
While the scriptures clearly states that “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
If truth be said, the so called “prayer rallies” across the country only provide a perfect opportunity for the conveners to chest thump or show their arrogance; spread propaganda and lies than what they are usually meant for.
In other words, instead of our leaders and their supporters using the occasion to humble themselves and seek Divine intervention on the matters of national importance - prayers hardly futures on their agenda.
The question I pause to us is: Are we and our leader’s honourers or mockers of God?
Paul wrote to the Galatians saying, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)
